SUBJECT: San Francisco cell phone laws and retaliation from the cellular phone industry

I'm curious.... in late June 2010, CTIA (The International Association for the Wireless Telecommunications Industry) issued a retaliatory statement following the passage of a San Francisco ordinance requiring cell phone retailers to list SAR value next to phones for sale. CTIA claims the law will "potentially mislead" consumers because all the phones sold are already in compliance with "safe" manufacturing limits set by the FCC (in 1996, no less). To retaliate, CTIA announced that it would not host it's 2010 Enterprise and Applications show in San Francisco again after Oct. 2010 and that the prior 5 San Fran shows had "an economic impact of almost $80 million to the Bay Area economy... We have already been contacted by several other cities that are eager to work with us and understand the tremendous benefits that wireless technology and our show can provide their area.
