Ask the Doc
Q & A to Inspire and Empower Your Inner Healer

It’s important for you to get frank and forthright answers to the questions you have about your health, but it’s not always easy. Answers you receive from your doctors might leave you confused and uncertain about how serious or benign your condition is and you might not feel comfortable asking for more details. While asking highly personal, sensitive questions is not always a pleasant experience, it helps to have an open, honest, trusting relationship with your doctor so you can better take charge of your health. Hopefully, you have an open-minded physician who will answer your questions directly, with compassion and concern, and in a way that you can understand and appreciate. You want to feel safe acting in your best interests, and not fear suggesting alternatives. You want someone who is open to the exploration of other options that may be better for you.

On each “Ask the Doc” page below, we’ve posted sample questions and answers Dr. Sinatra has received over time from patients and newsletter subscribers. We hope they will provide insight for you, or someone you know, who may be experiencing similar issues. Perhaps some of the Q & A here will also serve as inspiration if you are trying to strengthen the relationship between you and your doctor.

As he no longer sees patients, Dr. Sinatra encourages and conducts question-and-answer interactions with the subscribers of his newsletter, Heart, Health & Nutrition. He also provides answers to general health questions through articles and videos at heartmdinstitute.com. If you have a question that you can phrase in 25 words or less, send it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will do our best to address it generally through one of our Ask the Doc pages or another article at HMDI.

Please note that Dr. Sinatra does not provide personal medical advice through “Ask the Doc”; rather, it serves an informational tool (like a health pamphlet) to support you on your information quest. As such, it should never replace a visit to your physician, nor be considered medical advice upon which you rely when making health-related decisions.

The more you understand about wellness and illness, the better off you will be. Learning as much you can about integrative therapies from trusted sources is a great place to start. Empowering your “inner healer” is also crucial and involves examining the underlying emotional causes of illness and even tapping into your spirituality. Most important is finding a doctor you feel comfortable asking any question. Ask those questions… it’s your health at stake.

Content on this and other “Ask the Doc” pages has been reprinted or otherwise adapted from Dr. Sinatra's Candid Advice for Your Heart, a supplement to Heart, Health & Nutrition, with the permission of Healthy Directions, LLC.

are there any supplements you would recommend to help control or prevent A-Fib? I am told I have an aorta valve that does not open all the way...

Hi Dick, Check out "Understanding Arrhythmias" under Heart Health in our Cardiovascular System section (http://www.heartmdinstitute.com/health-concerns/cardiovascular-system/heart-health/atrial-fibrillation-other-arrhythmias) and scroll down to Nutraceutical Supports to find information on supplements. Best of health and happiness!
